Our baby room is designed for six children, aged 6 weeks - 2 years.
Your child's individual routines are facilitated within this homely room, and activities are provided which will stimulate each child's development.
Children enjoy a whole variety of activities including: Water play, Treasure baskets, Rhymes and songs etc.
Here at The Lighthouse our aim is to provide the best possible care for each child. We fully understand that we are taking care of your most precious possession – your child. It is of our up most importance to us that we work together in partnership with you, the parents and carers, to provide a loving environment for your child to be brought up in. we pride ourselves on forming good relationships with parents and gaining valuable information about your child to ensure we completely meet their needs.
In the Baby Room we follow children’s individual routine, so as not to disrupt their usual routine. By doing this we are aiming to keep the children feeling safe, secure, and settled. Your child will have their own Daily Diary Sheet, where you can read about what they have done at nursery, and what sleep, meals, etc they have had. Our staff are also here to help and support you and to answer any queries or advice you may need.
Our Baby Room can accommodate up to 6 children, therefore it has a warm home from home atmosphere. Babies are cared for in a relaxed environment with a choice of toys and equipment and planned fun activities to promote their development.
When we feel your baby is developmentally ready they will move from the Baby Room into the Tweenie Tod's Room, where we gradually introduce simple routines and activities to ensure your child develops independence, social skills and is able to enjoy the experiences along the way.
We are allowed to have up to 16 children in the room with a staff ratio of 1:3 for under age 2 and 1:4 for ages 2-3. Staff provide plenty of fun activities and opportunities to engage children's interest and encourage children to participate including lots of "messy" and exploratory play. The children also have free flow access to the outdoor play area.
There is also a quiet area where children can relax or look at books if they wish to do so. We also have home corner and role play area where your child can act out familiar scenarios from home. The children love "making" tea and "baking" cakes, the children also have opportunities to also make their own pizzas and various other cooking activities.
From the age of three, when your child is developmentally ready, they will move into the Pre School Room, again this follows the EYFS framework, the same as LA school nurseries. If your child does not attend a school nursery they may be eligible for a free place (terms and conditions apply).
In the Pre School children learn and develop through play based, stimulating activities and planned focused activities. They learn to socialise and follow simple routines, such as sitting nicely for story time and singing time, helping and sharing at snack and meal times and taking responsibility for their actions by tidying away toys and activities. When they are ready to start school, staff will help with the transition, working closely with school staff to make the situation as easy as possible.
